Role Overview
This is a hands-on role responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of all our hydration products. You will set up and manage our quality systems, oversee product testing and manufacturing QA, and ensure regulatory compliance from raw materials to finished goods.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance (QA)
- Develop and implement company-wide food safety and quality programs (HACCP, GMP, SOPs).
- Establish quality specifications for raw materials, packaging, and finished products.
- Audit and qualify manufacturing partners, co-packers, and suppliers.
- Maintain all QA documentation, records, and certifications.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality issues.
Quality Control (QC)
- Attend production runs at co-manufacturers to ensure products match control samples in taste, texture, and appearance, and are manufactured to spec.
- Oversee incoming ingredient verification (COAs, identity checks, spec testing).
- Conduct or coordinate in-process and finished product testing (pH, Brix, electrolyte levels, microbiological safety, sensory checks).
- Ensure proper batch records, lot traceability, and product release approvals.
- Partner with production to monitor sanitation, calibration, and process controls.
Regulatory Affairs
- Ensure compliance with FDA/USDA/FTC labeling regulations (ingredients, nutrition panels, claims).
- Stay up-to-date on relevant food & beverage regulations in U.S. and international markets.
- Review and approve product artwork, packaging, and marketing claims.
- Manage certifications (NSF, Non-GMO, Organic, etc.) if applicable.
- Serve as the primary contact for audits, inspections, and regulatory inquiries.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in quality assurance, food science, or regulatory affairs in the food/beverage/nutrition industry.
- Strong knowledge of FDA food regulations, HACCP, GMP, FSMA, and labeling requirements.
- Hands-on experience with QC testing (microbiology, chemical/physical testing, sensory evaluation).
- Proven ability to design and implement quality management systems.
- Comfortable in a startup environment — scrappy, adaptable, and resourceful.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills; detail-oriented and compliance-driven.
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field (advanced degree a plus).
